This late-Gothic building was constructed in 1358 for a Florentine charity group, the Compagnia della Misericordia (Confraternity of Mercy), as a home for plague victims and orphaned or unwanted children. The museum that resides in the building today has a fine collection of 14th and 15th-century art, including two frescos on the life of St. Peter, painted by Ventura di Moro and Rossello di Jacopo Franchi.
